Rides and Events

Check this page often for updated listings of all types of cycling events in and around our area. Rides require, at minimum, an appropriate bike in good working order, water, and a helmet. We suggest a spare tube, energy food, maybe a little cash in case we stop, and your biggest smile! Many rides are held subject to weather. It's a good idea to confirm dates, time and any specific requirements, too. We'll see you out there — and have fun!

Our Weekly Group Rides

Join us and other bike clubs on one of these fun rides. Whether you are new to cycling or an old pro, there is a ride that's right for you.

Every Tuesday5:30 PM Sharp! This is the fastest large group road ride in the state of Maine. This is not a beginner event (there are no waits). All are welcome to attend. The ride is 48.5 miles and covers the bigger hill climbs in Southern Maine. The race pace* (23-27mph+) is close to a Cat III race. Neutral start until Libby’s Ice Cream shop. Several sprints on this route include town line sprints, top of climb sprints and final Rt. 88 sprint. It is a very fun ride and great for training. The pack is usually 30-40 riders large. Starts the first Tuesday of April through the last Tuesday in August – every week leaving at 5:30 from Cyclemania. Expect a 3-hour ride. ALL TRAFFIC LAWS OBEYED.CycleMania, 65 Cove Street, Portland207.774.2933
Every Wednesday5:30 PMThe Wednesday Night Ride is a tempo* ride that begins at the South Portland High School Parking lot on Highland Avenue at 5:30pm. The route traces much of the same route as the Saturday Morning Ride (SMR), except that we turn left on Pleasant Hill Road, then right on Fogg Road before turning left onto Black Point Road (to avoid evening traffic). The pace from the parking lot to the end of Highland Avenue will be considered warm-up pace. Once the group turns onto Black Point Road, the pace is expected to quicken to emulate the SMR pace. We will regroup at the end of Black Point Road and continue along the route at a pace that will be established by the will of the group. The ride will regroup once again at the intersection of Old Ocean House Rd and Route 77 before the final push down Shore Rd to the Cookie Jar. Sprint for the glory at the end, if you like!South Portland High School, Highland Avenue, South Portland
Every Wednesday5:30 PMThis is a training ride for women who are looking for a little more intensity in a ride. Group riding skills preferred but not necessary. Pace will be recreational** with a distance of approximately 30 miles with wait spots as necessary for regrouping.Payson Park, Portland
Every Wednesday6:30 PMThe Wednesday Night Mountain Bike Ride is the original shop dirt ride. Its pace is the quickest around Portland with some of the region’s fastest racers, and assumes that first timers have a decent base level of fitness and technical riding ability. There are brief re-groups at key intersections, but no formal rest stops, and not every rider finishes with the main group. However, the group will wait if there is a crash or flat tire. (It’s not that serious of a ride.) Whether you’re a rider looking a new group with new faces, in search of a ride that’ll push your skills harder, or a racer looking for a fun way to fit in training, the WNR is your ride.Varies, please call ahead.207.774.2933

Every Saturday7:30 AM Sharp! This is a team training ride, open to all and group riding skills are important. The ride is about 30 miles long, departing Cyclemania and goes throughout South Portland and Cape Elizabeth to Prouts Neck and back along the shore. The men’s ride is an intensity pace* (>23MPH average) and has as many as 75 riders in the summer. (For women that would prefer not to ride with the main group, there is a women’s only ride that leaves right after the main group. It varies from 19 – 22 mph.) It’s mostly rolling to flat terrain. There are 4 major sprints on the men’s ride: “Prouts Neck”, “Fire Hydrant Hill”, “Inn By the Sea”, and of course the “Cookie Jar”. This is the largest competitive ride in the state and attracts all major Maine Teams, with riders from Bethel, Augusta and all York and Cumberland counties.CycleMania, 65 Cove Street, Portland207.774.2933
Every Thursday6:00 PMThe Thursday Night Mountain Bike Ride is new for this year. Unlike the Wednesday Night Ride, it’s designed to finish with the same number of riders it started with. It will be guided by several experienced riders who are there to help keep the group together while creating a fun learning atmosphere as well. It will cater to men and women alike, and only assumes that you have mountain bike, and an enthusiastic disposition for riding it. The first rides of the season will begin at CycleMania, and will navigate easy to moderate mountain bike trails totaling approximately 10 miles. The venue will change later in the season to Cape Elizabeth, with trails that are slightly more difficult. Whether you’re a road rider looking to mix things up mid-week, a once-was mountain biker looking to get back out there, or just an average rider that isn’t looking to bump elbows with a bunch of racers, this is your ride.CycleMania, 65 Cove Street, Portland207.774.2933
